ARGENTINE HERITAGE LEATHER

  • Since the launch of POSCO, we have been working in two major ways to improve leather production: traceability and chemical transparency. All our leather products are handmade by Argentinian specialists using traditional methods in vegetable-tanned and -dyed leather goods. They are made in small batches to customer order and are created to last, but also to reduce energy consumption and waste (this is why we pay special attention to water usage during the tanning process) as part of a responsible production in the slow fashion movement.

  • All tanneries supplying leather and suede to POSCO are certified by the Leather Working Group, which promotes sustainable environmental practices. The Leather Working Group (L.W.G.) is an independent group of tanneries and manufacturers committed to building a sustainable future with responsible leather, encompassing various actions such as water use, energy consumption, waste and chemical management, among others.

And what is vegetable tanning?

  • In case you were wondering, it’s a method of leather production that meets regulations without using hazardous or prohibited chemicals. Instead, it relies on soluble extracts from the bark, wood, leaves, and fruit of various trees and shrubs, offering a high level of comfort in footwear, antibacterial properties, and a thicker leather. Believe it or not, it’s one of the oldest tanning methods known to man, but today, less than 10% of the world’s leather is tanned this way.
